We were there seven days and that DEFINITELY was not enough time to do it all. Maybe if you went from pre-opening to close every day with no breaks - but in that summer heat and with two preschoolers, that wasn't an option. We had to take mid-day breaks, and we had to let the girls rest/sleep when they needed to do so. I guess that means we'll have to go back to experience all of the things we didn't get to do during this trip! ;)
I often heard that you can divide people into two groups: Disney people and non-Disney people. After a week at Disney...I think I could be a Disney person. Just not in July. Ha! Our trip had amazing moments and we rode fun rides and met wonderful characters and watched fantastic shows - but dude. It was fricking hot. And crowded. And while Florida is known to have brief daily showers - which I planned for - several days we experienced huge monsoon thunderstorms that lasted for hours and caused most of the rides in the parks to shut down and the resort sidewalks to flood up to the curbs. I know: complaining about a trip to Disney World is the epitome of first world problems.
However - heat and storms notwithstanding - it was still a good vacation and I'm eternally grateful we got to go. Without the heat and storms, it would have been an amazing vacation. Knowing that, if I were to do it over again, I probably would have just taken the prize money and put it towards a fall/winter Disney World vacation instead of going in July with the group (refresher: I earned my trip for free through Usborne, but we still paid full price for the girls and Chris). But I'm still glad we went. The girls had a truly magical time, and in the moments when my face wasn't melting off, I did too.
And now that we've been, I know so much more. I mean, seriously, Disney World almost requires a test run so you can figure out how things work and get oriented and understand the intricacies of the place - things you can read about a million times but not truly understand until you step foot onto Disney property. So I'm considering this our test run inaugural trip and the next trip will go so much more smoothly. Right?!
I've never seen more pee on toilet seats than I saw at Disney World. Every park, every toilet. People seem to be incapable of peeing IN the toilet or wiping it off if they (somehow?!?!?) miss. WTF.
Disney cast members have the most unflattering uniforms ever. So many shapeless dresses and button-down shirts in drab colors.
Ok, so not
So - here's a recap of our trip. I'll do another post of hints, from one newbie to another - as much as one newbie can offer.
DAY ONE : ARRIVAL
(Someday I'll finish this)
