But I rarely do.
Usually it's because I don't have the items I need when inspiration strikes. And usually I don't feel like running to Target (bless) at the moment because going to the store with two small kids is kind of a lot of work. Well, it feels like a lot of work in the moment. And it's easier just to sit at home and put on Frozen for the 1000th time that week.
But I want to be that fun mom with the fun activities. So I've began keeping an ever-stocked cabinet of things I need to complete like 80% of the pins I've pinned related to kid's activities. I noticed that some things came up over and over again in multiple activities, so it's pretty easy to keep them on hand.
- Borax (for slime, growing crystals, DIY bouncy balls, ant killer, and more)
- Liquid watercolor paint (I prefer the watercolor over food coloring for ease of clean up)
- White glue (for literally 8 million different slime recipes)
- Clear glue (to make different slimes that are more translucent)
- Cornstarch (for oobleck, 2 ingredient play dough, foaming snow and more)
- Conditioner (get a cheap bottle with yummy scents, for various playdough/sensory play)
- Shaving cream (for foaming snow, puff paint, and and more)
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Salt
- Liquid starch (for sand slime, galaxy slime, reusable bubbles)
- Poster board (I love these because I can cut a piece into smaller pieces and it's nice and stiff and doesn't fall apart after the toddler puts 10 pounds of paint on it)
- Cotton swabs
- Cotton balls
- Clothespins
- Old magazines
- Toilet paper/paper towel cardboard tubes (marble run, wall games, painting, arts and crafts)
- Sand (sand clay, foaming sand, magic sand, bubbling quicksand, sand slime)
- Tape (all kinds)
- Contact paper (suncatchers)
- Flour
- Veggie oil/olive oil/baby oil (cloud dough)
- Kool aid packets (to flavor/scent playdough and slime)
- Cream of Tartar (the best playdough recipes)
- Ivory soap (expanding soap, tub puffy paint)
